Leaving a Job

QUITTING OR RESIGNING means leaving a job voluntarily.
It is your choice to leave the job. 

REASONS FOR QUITTING OR RESIGNING
  • Moving away
  • Being offered another job
  • Starting school
  • Too busy
  • Want to change jobs
  • Want a job that is less challenging
  • Want a job that is more challenging
  • Want less stress
  • Want different hours

WHAT TO REMEMBER WHEN LEAVING A JOB
  • Make sure you have a new job
  • Give 2 weeks notice
  • Tell your supervisor first 
  • Leave on good terms
  • Thank the company for the opportunity to work there


BEING FIRED means you are leaving involuntarily.
It is not your choice to leave the job. 
You are fired when you do not meet the expectations of your employer.



REASONS FOR BEING FIRED
  • Tardiness
  • Absences
  • Not following directions or company policies
  • Not completing work
  • Arguing with co-workers or customers
  • Completing personal tasks while at work
  • Not working well with others
  • Violence or aggression
  • Stealing
  • Harassing


BEING LAID OFF also means you are leaving involuntarily.
It is not your choice to leave the job but the company had to ask you to leave for some reason. 
It does not mean that you did something wrong.

REASONS FOR BEING LAID OFF
  • Financial issues in the company
  • Restructuring or changes in the company



UMEMPLOYED means you do not have a job.










IF YOU BECOME UNEMPLOYED

  • Start searching for a job right away
  • Be open to looking for different types of jobs
  • Find out if you qualify for unemployment benefits
  • Maintain a daily routine and keep a to-do list
  • Talk to someone you trust and use your coping strategies
